East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call of a domestic disturbance where a man held family at gunpoint and shot one relative before shooting himself.

Jerry Lee Foster, 53, shot himself following a short pursuit with Sheriff's Deputies at approximately 11:07 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11.

According to reports, Foster had an argument with his wife Sunday morning when he pulled out a gun and made threats about killing the family and himself. Foster then took his wife at gunpoint to a relative's house in the 10000 block of Spring Lake where their teenage son was staying.

Foster held his wife, his teenage son, his two adult relatives and their two children at gunpoint threatening to kill them all. At one point Foster allegedly misfired at his wife, and the others tried to run. At that time, Foster shot his female adult relative in the back of the leg.

The husband of the woman shot ran to the back of his house to get his gun and fired at Foster several times, but missed. Everyone fled from the residence.

Deputies began receiving calls at 10:55 a.m. and were on scene two minutes later at 10:57 a.m. Foster was outside looking for those who ran when he saw deputies arrive on scene. He ran to his truck and fled.

Deputies pursued Foster for a short period until he stopped at Spring Lake and Spring Wind and shot himself. Foster was pronounced dead on the scene.
