BATON ROUGE, LA — East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office detectives are awaiting the extradition of a Miami man arrested on Saturday, August 18 in Miami, Fla. at the Greyhound Bus Station for traveling to meet a child for sex.
Samuel Woodside, 45, of Miami, Florida is currently charged with Human Trafficking, Traveling to Meet a Minor for Unlawful Sex, Luring and Enticing a Minor to Commit an Unlawful Act, Interference with Custody and Sending Harmful Materials to a Minor. Woodside was arrested as a result of a joint investigation by The Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Miami Regional Operations Center, a member of the South Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, the Louisiana Attorney General High-Tech Crimes Unit and the Miami Dade School Board Police.
According to reports, Woodside allegedly communicated via the internet and cell phone with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl living in East Baton Rouge Parish during July and August this year. An undercover East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office detective was actually posing as the child as part of a Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Unit initiative. Woodside allegedly sent sexually explicit photos to the girl, along with an invitation to come to Miami to participate in sex acts with himself and others. He discussed with the girl on multiple occasions that she would be used to make money for him by performing sex acts with others. Woodside allegedly purchased a bus ticket for the child to travel from Baton Rouge to Miami. Woodside was arrested when he arrived at the bus station in Miami to pick up the child.
Woodside was booked into Dade County Jail in Miami on the above charges. Woodside was employed as a custodian at a Miami Middle School at the time of arrest, and resigned upon arrest.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office currently has charges of Indecent Behavior With a Juvenile, Human Trafficking and Computer Aided Solicitation of a Minor pending for Woodside. Detectives are working with the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office and the East Baton Rouge District Attorney’s Office to have Woodside extradited to EBR. Once extradited he will be booked into parish prison on the aforementioned charges.
