Donaldsonville business owner arrested for selling synthetic marijuana

A business owner was arrested following a two- month investigation into the selling of synthetic marijuana from Mr. Smoke Inc. located at 400 Marchand Dr. in Donaldsonville.

In February, the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division began an investigation into the sales of illegal Synthetic Marijuana in West Ascension. During the course of the investigation, narcotics detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Thar Elabed of New Orleans. 

On Monday, April 15, narcotics detectives arrested Thar Elabed at his place of business in Donaldsonville. Elabed was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail and was charged with possession of schedule I CDS, possession of schedule II CDS, and a fugitive warrant from Dallas, Texas for aggravated robbery. Judge Turner set Elabed’s bond at $5,742.50 and a hold was placed on him for the fugitive warrant from Dallas, Texas.

On April 17, 2013, narcotics detectives executed a search warrant at Mr. Smoke Inc. which is owned by Thar Elabed. During the search, narcotics detectives seized 1,350 packs of synthetic marijuana from the store and vehicle of Thar Elabed. Narcotics detectives also seized hydroponic marijuana, cocaine, prescription pills, and drug paraphernalia from the store. Narcotics detectives then applied for an arrest warrant on Thar Elabed for the contraband located in his store and vehicle.

On Thursday, April 18, Thar Elabed was arrested on the warrant at the Ascension Parish Jail where he was already incarcerated on the April 15 arrest. Thar Elabed was charged with possession with intent to distribute schedule I CDS (Synthetic Cannabinoids), possession with intent to distribute schedule I CDS (Marijuana), Possession of Schedule II CDS (Cocaine), possession of schedule II CDS (Vyvance), possession of schedule II CDS (Adderall), possession of schedule IV CDS (Alprazolam), and drug paraphernalia. Bond has not been set on the new charges.
