Mayor President Kip Holden made the announcment Friday morning. It comes after a grueling search that at one point had 30 candidates.

White was 1 of the final 5 candidates that were selected by the Police Chief Search Commitee - a group of leaders from several aspects of Baton Rouge that screened, and interviewed all the candidates. The Commitee took the list from 30, to 11, and then 5.

51 year old White replaces Interim Chief Charles Mondrick. He was hired after the former chief, Jeff LeDuff, retired back in December 2010. Mondrick was only set to be on for 90 days - but that term was extended when the list of candidates for top cop was so short.
