BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) – A domestic dispute nearly turned deadly this morning in a quiet Baton Rouge subdivision.

The scene is taped off on Rampart Street. That’s where authorities say a man broke into the home of his possible ex-wife, became enraged, and shot her.

A witness says the man called his mother after the shooting and confessed. He turned himself over the police without incident.

The woman who was shot has been transported to Our Lady of the Lake hospital. Baton Rouge EMS say she was “alert and awake” in the ambulance. Casey Hicks with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office says her injuries are not life-threatening.

An NBC33 News team is on the scene. They’ve talked with family members and neighbors. We’ll hear what they have to say on NBC33 News at 5 p.m.
