DEQUINCY, LA — A man has been arrested after his alleged involvement in the death of his live-in girlfriend, who initially was though to have commited suicide.
On March 28, 2012, at approximately 3:00 a.m., CPSO deputies were called to the home of Leo Thibodeaux Jr., 53, regarding a woman, later identified as Toni Marie Frabbiele, 37, lying on the floor of the bedroom unresponsive. Frabbiele was pronounced dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound.
A statement provided by Thibodaux to detectives indicated Frabbiele committed suicide in his presence. Detectives questioned Thibodeaux ‘s account of the incident, but lacked any evidence at that time to substantiate he was involved in her death.
Detectives contacted the Coroner’s Office to discuss suspicion of Thibodeaux’s statement claiming suicide prior to Dr. Terry Welke’s autopsy. As the investigation continued, detectives sought the assistance of Crime Scene Reconstruction Examiner Colonel Tim Scanlan of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Crime Lab.
Using the conclusion of Dr. Welke’s autopsy and Col. Scanlan's findings, the manner of a death was ruled a homicide. Frabbiele was actually shot twice, and incapable of doing this herself.
Upon receipt of the autopsy report and the crime scene reconstruction report, detectives obtained a warrant for Second-Degree Murder for Thibodeaux. He was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center.
