Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that Akeem Arsenio Hall Banks, 22, of Hammond was charged in connection to an ATM burglary at Chuck’s Quick Stop in Pumpkin Center on June 26, 2013.

Though a joint investigation between the sheriff’s office, HPD and the LSP, detectives were able to connect Banks through DNA to the burglary.

Banks first became a suspect as the result of a Crime Stoppers tip received through the Hammond Police Department. Banks was interviewed and willfully submitted a DNA sample. During the same time frame, the vehicle (a sliver mini-van), which was stolen and used to commit the burglary, was being processed at the LSP Crime Lab for evidence. As luck would have it, yesterday afternoon the TPSO was advised that Banks’s DNA positively matched the DNA collected from the mini-van. Immediately a warrant was issued for Banks’s arrest.

In the early morning hours of July 31, 2013, Banks was taken into custody without incident from a residence in Amite. Banks has been charged with possession of stolen property and with the burglary of a business.

This investigation is ongoing.
