Dangerous California fugitive tracked to Assumption Parish
Labadieville, La (NBC33) — A dangerous fugitive from California who has been on the run for six years was located and arrested on Thursday, Aug. 11 in Assumption Parish.
Demple A. Hawkins, 46, was accused of stabbing her ex-boyfriend in the back and then fleeing from San Bernadino County in California. On Wednesday, Aug. 10 the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the San Bernadino County Sheriff’s Office with a tip that Hawkins was living in Labadieville, La.
Detectives with the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office went to the Parker Apartments where Hawkins was allegedly said to be in hiding. After speaking with residents in the area, Deputies tracked down Hawkins and were able to arrest her without incident.
Hawkins was transported to the Assumption Parish Detention Center where she was booked as a fugitive and held for San Bernadino County Sheriff’s Department awaiting extradition.
As per Detectives in San Bernardino County, she is looking at serving 16 years on the parole violation and faces possible life in prison if convicted on the new charges (habitual offender).
