Cyclist seriously injured from hit and run crash in downtown

BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A 26-year-old man is in the hospital after he was hit by a car while riding his bike in downtown. The driver fled the scene and Police are working to locate the individual responsible.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that the incident occurred at roughly 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16. We’re told the man was found in the roadway around North 19th at Convention Street in downtown Baton Rouge.
Witnesses said that man was hit by a silver Volvo that was driving in the Westbound lane down Convention Street. The driver struck the man on the bicycle, then drove off. Officials tell us the bike was located in the roadway and was crushed.
The victim was reportedly bleeding from the head and was rushed to a local hospital. Friends of the victim tell NBC33 News that he is seriously injured, but in stable condition.
