Corrections officer arrested for trying to bring drugs into Elayn Hunt Correctional Center
ST. GABRIEL, LA (NBC33) — Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley reports the arrest of an Elayn Hunt Correctional Center employee.
Authorities at Elayn Hunt in St. Gabriel began an internal investigation into an employee, Daron Toussant, Sr. of Geismar, attempting to introduce illegal narcotics into the Correctional Center. During the internal investigation it was learned that
Toussant had illegal narcotics at his home which is located in Ascension Parish.
The Ascension Parish Narcotics Detectives interviewed Toussant and subsequently searched his home in Geismar. Detectives seized a quantity of marijuana, synthetic cannabinoids, and a handgun. Detectives also learned that Toussant’s 14-year-old son resides with him in the residence.
Daron Toussant, Sr., 48, of 36365 Highway 74, Geismar, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute synthetic cannabinoid, illegal carrying of a weapon, illegal use of CDS in presence of a person under 17, and conspiracy to introduce contraband to a penal facility.
He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on Thursday, November 7 where his bond has not been set.
