Convicted felon arrested for fatal early morning shooting in Bayou Vista

A convicted felon was quickly arrested for allegedly shooting and killing an 18-year-old in Bayou Vista this morning.

The St. Mary Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident occurred shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Monday, April 29. We’re told deputies arrived on scene to find the victim, Wade Blackburn, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies identified the suspect as Douglas Chandler, II, 21, of Sun Road in Bayou Vista. They then went to his home and conducted a search of the property. They recovered a gun, narcotics, drug paraphernalia and counterfeit money from the home.

During the search, a witness told investigators that a man was hiding behind a car nearby. As deputies approached the man, he reportedly fled the scene on foot.

Deputies gave chase and caught the man a short distance away. It was Chandler, and he was then placed under arrest.

Chandler is charged with First-Degre Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. He was additionally charged with Possession of Marijuana (third offense), Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Monetary Instrument Abuse, and Possession of a Legend Drug without a Prescription (Fioricet).
