RESERVE, LA (NBC33) — A 28-year-old man was arrested yesterday for allegedly shooting and killing a man over the weekend. A witness told detectives that the victim was likely caught in the crossfire of a duel unrelated to him.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that Lorenzo Porter is charged with Second-Degree Murder for the death of Jamond James, 22.
The incident occurred on Saturday, April 6 shortly before 10:00 p.m. We’re told James was found shot to death near the intersection of River Road and East 24th Street.
A witness reported that he was with the victim prior to the shooting. He said that Porter was involved in an altercation the night before at a local bar. He believes that the gunfire was retaliation for that event. However, the victim was not believed to be involved in that incident and was not likely a target.
Porter was additionally charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. His bond was set at $271,562.90.
