HAMMOND, LA (NBC33) — A Baton Rouge man and a woman were arrested yesterday for a murder that happened roughly a decade ago.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that Karen Birch, 33, of Tickfaw, and David Morris, 37, were arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 14 in connection to the murder of Debbie Ann Lindsey, 44, of Amite.
Lindsey was reported missing on Feb. 17, 2003 after her 28-year-old boyfriend told her mother that he had not seen Lindsey for two days. On March 13, 2003, Lindsey's body was located in a wooded area near her residence. Although the body was badly decomposed, an autopsy revealed that she had been stabbed multiple times.
Last month the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reopened the case and asked the public for additional information. New witnesses provided information that connected Morris and Birch to the case.
Officials note that both suspects have always been persons of interest in this case. The new witness statements provided enough evidence to support probable cause to make the arrests.
No further information has been released at this time. However, officials say the investigation is ongoing and they will provide more details once it is available.
