A Baton Rouge woman was arrested today for allegedly murdering a woman 13 years ago.

Sonya Walls Kimber, 48, was taken into custody on Friday, June 28 for the murder that happened back on November 14, 2000.

Kimber is accused of stabbing Monique Edwards multiple times during an argument. Edwards was the mother of a 2-week-baby and her child was also injured during the incident. However, the infant survived.

Officials say DNA evidence is what’s connected her to the crime.

The DNA evidence was processed by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab after it was submitted by BRPD’s Cold Case division.

Kimber is charged with Second-Degree Murder and Aggravated Second-Degree Battery.
