Charges upgraded for woman implicated in 1984 murder investigation
BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A woman implicated in the murder of a Louisiana man back in 1984 was transported and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison yesterday.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that Leila Mulla, 47, of Astoria, NY, was booked into parish prison with an upgraded charge of first-degree murder.
Mulla is accused of participating in the robbery of Gary Kergan in Metairie. Although his body was never recovered, investigators believe Mulla and accomplice Ronald Dalton Dunnagan, 64, of Bossier City. Killed Kergan and disposed of his body.
“Due to the circumstances around the case detectives have decided to upgrade or to change from second-degree to first-degree murder,” Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, Baton Rouge Police Department, said. “Dunnagan was initially charged with first-degree and detectives now believe the charges are appropriate for Mulla as well.”
