Charges upgraded after teen shooting victim dies from being shot in the neck

BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Several months after being paralyzed from the neck down by a bullet, a 16-year-old girl passed away.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that the victim, Mary Johnson, of Baker, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 7. Officials say she was shot in the back of her neck while walking down the 3700 block of Topeka Street. Her injury left her paralyzed from the neck down.
On May 24, 2012, the suspect, Dedric White, 18, was arrested and charged for Attempted Second-Degree Murder. Today his charges are upgraded to Second-Degree Murder.
