A 21-year-old man from Central was arrested for allegedly shooting a woman in the chest with a BB gun while he was sitting on the hood of a moving car.

According to the arrest report filed by the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened on Tuesday, Sept. 24 shortly before 7:00 p.m. The victim told deputies that she was riding her bike in the Central Woods neighborhood when she was shot.

“The victim stated that she was riding her bicycle on Forest Grove with her friend [and] stated that a silver car…drove by slowly with the accused on the hood,” the report noted. “She observed the accused point his arm/hand at her and she then heard two loud sounds of air before feeling pain in the left side of her chest.”

Although the victim admitted that she could not see the gun well, she did recognize the man, who she knew only by the name of DJ. She told the deputy that she had been involved in a fight with his mutual acquaintance the day prior.

While the deputy was speaking with the victim, the car involved in the incident drove past the deputy. The deputy spoke to the driver, who admitted identified the suspect as Paul Darrell Jeansonne.

“[He] stated that the inside of the car was loaded with belongings, so [Jeansonne] rode on the hood of the car,” the report noted. “[He] stated that he drove slowly so [Jeansonne] would not fall off and as they passed the two victims [Jeansonne] shot at them with the BB pistol.”

Jeansonne was located at his home and denied shooting the victim. He did, however, admit that he was riding on the hood of the car.

Jeansonne was arrested and charged with Illegal Use of a Weapon and Aggravated Battery. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. His bond was set at $75,000.
