Two attempted carjackers are running on foot after crashing the vehicle they stole from a woman at gunpoint.

The Baton Rouge Police Department was called to a home located at the corner of Steele and Capital Heights sometime after 8:00 p.m. Sources say a woman was at the home to pick up a child she was going to babysit for the evening. However, she never made it to the door.

We’re told when the woman stopped her vehicle in the parking space of the home, she was approached by two black males. One of the suspects allegedly pulled out a gun and instructed the woman to get out of the vehicle. She complied and the two men got in her car. They would have gotten away, however, as they attempted to make a U-turn on the street, they went too far and crashed the vehicle in a ditch.

With the vehicle unable to maneuver back onto the street, the two men got out of the car and started running. Witnesses say one male fired a gunshot as they were fleeing.

Investigators are currently working to track down the suspects.
