Burglary suspect sets fire to clothing in police holding cell

THIBODAUX, LA (NBC33) — A burglary suspect gained an additional charge after he allegedly set fire to his clothing while he was locked up in a holding cell.
The Thibodaux Police Department reports that Dreonte Holmes was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 13 for Attempted Simple Burglary and a Warrant for Failure to Appear on Drug Charges. Officials claim that Holmes took off his shirt while he was being processed and set it on fire with a small lighter he had in his pocket.
The entire holding cell had to be evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
Holmes is accused of attempting to break into a home on the 100 block of North 5th Street through the back door. The homeowner noticed what was happening and banged on the window. Holmes allegedly fled the scene, but was located and apprehended a short distance away.
Holmes is now facing an additional charge of Aggravated Arson. He was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. His bond was set at $80,000.
