BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A police officer fired his gun at a suspect who allegedly attempted to hit several officers with his vehicle.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that the incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11. Officials tell us several officers were located around the 1300 block of Old Hammond Highway when they noticed an individual engaging in “suspicious activity.” Officers approached the suspect’s vehicle and allegedly noticed drugs in plain view.
One officer instructed the suspect to get out of the vehicle. However, reports indicate that the suspect put his vehicle in reverse and nearly hit several officers who were standing behind it. One officer located in front of the vehicle pulled out his gun and fired a shot, which hit the steering wheel.
No one was injured.
At this point the suspect Terrance Hilton, 32, of Baton Rouge, surrendered and was taken into custody. He was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on four counts of Aggravated Assault on an Officer.
The officer who discharged his weapon will be placed on paid administrative leave while an investigation is conducted by Internal Affairs. This is standard procedure for any incident where an officer uses his gun.
