BRPD officer arrested for forgery of several misdemeanor summons

BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Another officer with the Baton Rouge Police Department is locked up today after being charged with a handful of offences. Today, NBC33 News learned that another officer was arrested over the weekend.
The Baton Rouge Police Department arrested Derek Jason Burns, 29, of Baton Rouge for four counts of Forgery, Injuring Public Records, and Malfeasance in Office. He is accused of forging signatures on several misdemeanor summons without the individuals having knowledge of the act. The incidents allegedly occurred between June 6, 2012 and July 26, 2012.
The arrest was made after an internal investigation was conducted.
Burns has been a Baton Rouge Police Officer for 6 years and was currently working in the department's Prisoner Processing Unit. Burns was arrested this morning and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Earlier today NBC33 News reported that another officer with the Baton Rogue Police Department was arrested over the weekend. Major Ernest Brewer was taken into custody by the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office on Saturday for an alleged case of domestic abuse against the mother of his child.
