BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A 20-year-old man was shot and killed by armed robbers while he was driving in the 10000 block of Big Bend.
“We believe this was not a random act and that the victims were targeted,” Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, Baton Rouge Police Department, said. “We’re in the process of following up on some leads.”
The incident occurred shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4. We’re told the victim, Rayjaun Martin, 20, was driving down Big Bend road when he attempted to turn around in a driveway. That’s when the suspects pulled up in another vehicle and blocked the vehicle from being able to move.
“Two men approached Martin and his passenger with handguns and attempted to rob them of their belongings,” Cpl. McKneely said. “The passenger in the vehicle was able to flee the scene just prior to Martin being shot multiple times.”
When officers arrived, the suspects had fled, and Martin was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspects are described as black males who were seen leaving in a light colored vehicle.
