UPDATE: The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that John Baus, III, 24, turned himself in for the hit-and-run crash that injured Matt Tugwell, 28. He is currently being questioned by investigators and will be booked for Felony Hit-and-Run, Careless Operation and Red Light Violation. He will be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

ORIGINAL: Police believe they have located the vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a 28-year-old man.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that a tip to Crime Stoppers led detectives to a local body shop, where they recovered a vehicle matching the description provided by witnesses.

“We’re working to identify the driver of the vehicle, who is responsible for the crash,” Cpl. Don Coppola, Baton Rouge Police Department, said.

Police took possession of the white Toyota Prius.

The incident happened at roughly 11:20 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12 at the intersection of East State Street and Dalrymple. The victim, Matt Tugwell, 28, has open fractures to his leg and experienced bleeding on his brain.

Although this is a major break in the case, police ask for the public to continue to provide any information they might have related to the case.
