UPDATE: BRPD makes 1 arrest for armed robbery, fatal crash

UPDATE: Melvin Morgan, 17, turned himself in to police authorities earlier Thursday morning.

Morgan was charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Flight, Hit and Run, and Manslaughter.

The investigation is still ongoing. 


ORIGINAL: Baton Rouge Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened Monday night around 11:40 p.m. near the intersection of North 30th Street and Fairfields Avenue.

The crash took the life of Elvin Dunn Junior, 37, of Baton Rouge.

When police tried to stop the suspects’ car for a vehicle violation, they tried to escape and crashed into Dunn’s car in the process.

Dunn was thrown from his vehicle and died at the scene.

The suspects ran away on foot after the crash.

The three male suspects also happened to be involved in an armed robbery earlier that afternoon around 3:25 p.m. The suspects allegedly stole the victim’s cellphone.

Detectives are still investigating the case.
