CALCASIEU PARISH, LA — On March 20, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives received a complaint in reference to a theft.
When detectives spoke with the victim, she advised she discovered former acquaintance Charlie C. Laing, 30, who had lived with her since November 2012, had stolen several electronic items from her home including a GPS, a radar detector and a Blu-Ray player, all valued at over $1,700.
The victim also revealed it was not until Laing was arrested on March 19 on unrelated charges, that she discovered the electronic items were missing.
During further investigation, detectives discovered the stolen items were pawned by Laing at local pawn shops between February 5 and March 12 and were recovered by detectives and returned to the victim. When questioned by detectives, Laing confirmed he stole the electronics and then sold them to local pawn shops for cash.
On March 25, Laing, who is currently incarcerated in the Calcasieu Correctional Center on unrelated charges, was re-arrested and charged with theft over $1,500.
