BATON ROUGE (NBC33) — Seven people are in jail thanks to efforts by the brave team and law enforcement officials say this is just the beginning.
It was an early wake-up call for some of East Baton Rouge Parish's most wanted, but it also made for one troubling morning experience for neighbors.
"You know we have kids, and not only that but for my own safety. So yeah, you know I am worried. Whenever you see things like this because a lot of times you don't even know what's going on, so when it does happen it's always a shock," explained a neighbor.
The raid is all part of a parish wide sting to round up criminals who were targeted as part of the BRAVE call-ins and offered help, but choose not to change their ways.
"We told them that if they didn't stop the violence we were coming after them, and we did this morning. This community is tired of the violence, law enforcement is tired of the violence and it was time for them to answer for what they had done," explained Chief of police Carl Dabadie.
In Gardere, our cameras caught up with three men who were arrested for possession of marijuana, cocaine and guns. But those three are not the only ones going to jail today. Four other members of the ‘Big Money Block Boyz’ group are behind bars also, bringing the total arrested in the raid to seven.
"The ‘Big Money Block Boyz’ did not heed our warning. We gave them an opportunity to right their ways and they choose not to. So this morning was law enforcement holding up our end of the bargain," said Chief Dabadie.
Neighbors told us that round-ups like this will hopefully start discouraging some of the other offenders in east baton rouge parish.
"People who are out there doing the crime. I hope they see what's going on and that they think about what they're doing before they do it, so that these types of situations won't happen, so families won't be hurt behind irresponsible actions," added a resident in the neighborhood.
In total the round-up netted 7 arrests and seizure of 8lbs of marijuana, 309.5 grams of cocaine, $1,619.00 cash, a bullet proof vest and 13 guns (two of which were stolen).
