BR investigators suspect arson was used to cover up burglary
The Baton Rouge Fire Department and the Baton Rouge Police Department are investigating a house fire that happened Thursday around 8:55 a.m. in the 5000 block of Sycamore Street.
Investigators believe this was a case of arson and that the house was intentionally set to cover up a crime scene.
When firefighters arrived, they found the master bedroom engulfed in flames. They quickly contained the fire to the bedroom, but the rest of the home received smoke and heat damage.
The residents were not home at the time, but were notified and returned home after the fire was extinguished.
The Red Cross arrived on the scene to assist the residents.
BRFD Fire Investigators and Baton Rouge City Police believe the home was burglarized prior to the fire being set.
The case is still under investigation.
