BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A Baton Rouge physician was arrested for allegedly behaving inappropriately with a patient during four recent visits to his office located on Sherwood Forest in Baton Rouge.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that Dr. Howard Gidden, 63 - a general practitioner - was arrested for allegedly behaving inappropriately with a 24-year-old patient during their appointments. The first incident happened in April 2013.
Officials explained that at least one incident was sexual in nature and the other three were considered "highly inappropriate." According to the arrest report, Gidden called the victim after the second incident and apologized.
“She had some previous pending court issues and was ordered to go to that particular clinic,” Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, Baton Rouge Police Department, said when asked why she continued to visit the clinic. “The inappropriate acts escalated upon each visit. The final encounter convinced her to inform her representative within the court, who then contacted our agency.”
Gidden was questioned by police on Friday, July 12. The arrest report notes that he originally denied the allegations and said “he had no idea why anyone would accuse him.” However, the report notes that he later admitted to the sexual contact, but said it was consensual.
“We believe there might be other incidents that have occurred in the past.” Cpl. McKneely said. “If you feel like you have been a victim of inappropriate behavior, we encourage you to contact our office.”
If you believe you’ve been victimized, please call the Baton Rouge Police Department Sex Crimes Division at (225) 389-3853, or call Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-STOP (7867). You can also text your tip to CRIMES (274637). Include CS225 at the beginning of your message.
Gidden was charged with two counts of Simple Battery and one count of Sexual Battery. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
