Terrebonne Parish, LA (WGNO) -- A teacher and coach who worked in Terrebonne Parish is accused of having sex with a minor and intentionally exposing them to the AIDS virus, authorities said Thursday.
On May 9, detectives first received word that Derrick Nesby was involved with a 16-year-old boy he taught and coached at H.L. Bourgeois High School. He was questioned, but then released.
This week after obtaining a search warrant Nesby was arrested and charged on one count of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile; an allegation the 37-year-old denies.
A further investigation revealed Nesby knowingly spread the AIDS virus. Prosecutors then charged him with one count of intentional exposure to the AIDS virus.
A judge raised Nesby's bond Friday to $1,000,000.
Nesby lives in New Orleans and commuted to work every day. He no longer works at H.L. Bourgeois High School.
