Body found in river identified as Veterans Bridge jumper

Gramercy, La (NBC33) — THIS IS AN NBC33 NEWS UPDATE: Laurent’s body was recovered from the Mississippi River in Norco near the Valero Docks this morning shortly after 8:00 a.m. Valero personnel noticed a body floating in the water, recovered the body, and immediately contacted authorities. Laurent’s body was transported to the New Orleans Forensic Center, where an autopsy was performed this afternoon.

ORIGINAL STORY: Tuesday, Aug. 23 - A car chase on a bridge in Gramercy leads to the suspect jumping in the water below.
It happened around 1 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Bridge in St. James Parish.
State police say one officer lost control of his vehicle in the chase near the base of the bridge; the officer was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.
The man running from police then drove to the top of the bridge in a black Impala and jumped.
As of now, the search crew has not found the man. Officials tell us this suspect was wanted for another crime.
