"Obviously when you're dealing with these types of drugs anything can basically happen," says  Alcohol and Tobacco Control Commissioner Troy Hebert.

Alcohol and Tobacco Control Commissioner Troy Hebert wants synthetic marijuana like this off the streets. That's why his agency teamed up with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office to try and rid the parish of these illegal and dangerous drugs.

"As commissioner, I definitely deem it as a threat to the public safety when you have legal establishments selling illegal drugs on them," says Hebert.

The A.T.C. busted four businesses so far this month, three businesses in Baton Rouge and one in Baker. All the places were shut down and had their alcohol licenses suspended. The problem though is much larger that just these four businesses.

"This is not isolated to East Baton Rouge Parish. this is happening across the state," says Hebert.

Hebert says by suspending the licenses of these four stores it sends a strong message to any store even thinking about selling synthetic marijuana.

'If you're caught selling synthetic marijuana. you will face a hearing that could cost you your alcohol license," says Hebert

it's not so much synthetic marijuana as other herbs in the plant kingdom that exhibit various effects. the bottom line is education is needed for those enforcing this. look best recipe for something that will get you some type of "feeling", oregano/sage/nutmeg all rolled up in a joint or swisher. you can get it at any walmart (and all the walmarts are open 24 hours in baton rouge), real easy. and the things in those bags are not synthetic marijuana, not by a long shot.
