BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) – Benjamin Amadi, 54, plead guilty to fraudulent health care claims at a U.S. Distrcit Court on March 4.

Liberty Medical Services LLC, which is owned by Amadi, provided false claims in an attempt to defraud the Medicare program.

Specifically, Liberty routinely submitted claims to Medicare that it was providing a beneficiary with an extra heavy-duty powered wheelchair, designed for people that weigh over 600 pounds. In fact, Liberty was providing a much less expensive, non-specialized wheelchair.

Amadi also gave false claims totaling nearly $2.8 million to Medicare and withdrew over $470,000 from Liberty’s corporate account.

Amadi faces ten years in jail.
