Barricaded gunman detained in Ponchatoula
Ponchatoula, La (NBC33) — The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office has reported that their Special Response Team disarmed a barricaded gunman in a Ponchatoula residence.
At approximately 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, the Ponchatoula Police contacted TPSO requesting assistance.
A resident in the 100 block of Ford Street had allegedly barricaded himself in his home with a gun and was threatening to kill himself.
SRT members and a negotiator made contact with the man and tried to get him to surrender.
Deputies engaged the gunman for about an hour. He eventually went to the doorway and waved his gun, threatening to kill himself or force officers to kill him.
Authorities were finally able to neutralize and detain the gunman. He was then safely released to the PPD without further incident.
