Baker Police arrest wanted Armed Robbery suspect
BAKER, LA (BPD) — On August 12, 2011 Baker Police made an arrest of a subject for an Armed Robbery, which had taken place earlier this year, in May.
Kurtis Heard, 17, of Baker was apprehended at his residence located on McHugh Road without incident, after detectives had obtained a warrant for his arrest. According to information received, the victim – who was a juvenile, and whose name was not released due to his age – was walking to his bus stop, when he was approached by Heard; who produced a gun, and demanded that the victim empty his pockets. The juvenile victim complied giving Heard the only possessions he had in his pockets: a hairbrush, and a cell phone.
Heard then fled the scene, while the victim, who was left unharmed, got to school and alerted police. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division were later able to obtain a positive identification of Heard from the victim.
Kurtis Heard – who was recently arrested in June of this year for Attempted First Degree Murder – was taken into custody, and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish prison, on the offenses of Illegal Use of a Firearm, and Armed Robbery with a Firearm; which carries an enhancement penalty because the use of a gun in the commission of the act.
