On September 23, the Baker Police Department arrested of Tanya Vessel, 25, who was one of the suspects wanted in an ongoing investigation of thefts that occurred in both Ascension and Iberville parishes.

Investigators have been investigating a group of at least six female suspects that had been targeting local stores by stealing large quantities of Enfamil and other baby formula worth thousands of dollars.

Law enforcement officials acquired surveillance video of the suspects, and identification on at least two of the vehicles used in the thefts.

This information, along with tips from the public, led detectives to discover two of the six suspects were currently living in Baker.

Ascension officials contacted the Baker Police Department, and advised them that they had an affidavit arrest warrant for one of the suspects, Cynthia Johnson. When police went to the residence, they found that Johnson was not at the residence; however, Tanya Vessel, who is Johnson’s daughter, was there.

Baker police officers and Ascension Sheriff’s deputies made contact with Plaquemine Police Department, who told law enforcement that Vessel was one of the suspects positively identified in the thefts which occurred in their location.

In addition, 22 cans of baby formula were found inside of the residence.

Vessel was taken into custody without incident, and booked into the East Baton Rouge parish prison as a fugitive from Iberville parish.
