BATON ROUGE, LA — Louisiana Attorney Buddy Caldwell’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit has arrested its 900th offender as the Attorney General’s Office continues its aggressive crackdown on wanted fugitives.
Investigators with the attorney general’s FAU yesterday arrested Derrick D. Daniel, 38, who went into hiding after being indicted by an East Feliciana Parish Grand Jury for vehicular homicide in May. The indictment stems from a November 2012 alcohol-related crash that killed Kenneth Taylor, Jr. of Baton Rouge, a passenger in Daniel’s vehicle.
After being contacted by the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office for assistance, the FAU located and apprehended Daniel at a residence in Zachary. He was booked into the East Feliciana Parish Jail. Yesterday’s arrest marks the Unit’s 900th arrest since its inception in 2008.
“I am proud of all the hard work our Fugitive Apprehension Unit has put into locating and apprehending these dangerous offenders,” said Attorney General Caldwell. “We’ve received an amazing level of teamwork and cooperation from the many local law enforcement agencies around the state and nation who partner with us to bring these criminals to justice.”
Attorney General Buddy Caldwell created the FAU in 2008 to assist local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies with locating and apprehending fugitives from justice.
