Ascension Parish Sheriff's Deputies say two people were killed and one seriously injured on Babin Road in Gonzales late Saturday night.

Sheriff's deputies say it happened in the 39000 block of Babin road.

APSO says they were checking on three elderly people after family members told them they couldn't make contact with them for some time.

Deputies say when they knocked on the door, no one responded, and then forced their way into the home.

They found Robert Marchand, 74, and Douglas Dooley, 50, both dead. They say they also found Shirley Marchand, 72, critically injured. She's in a local hospital this evening. Sheriff's Deputies say they suspect foul play.

Investigators with the Sheriff's office say they're combing the scene searching for clues. The motive is unknown at this time.

THIS IS AN NBC 33 NEWS UPDATE: Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley says the two people that were attacked and killed on Babin road saturday night were related.

Marchand was Dooley's Father. Sheriff's deputies say both were killed by deep cuts to the neck.

Sheriff Wiley says Dooley and his father were killed because of certain precious items that were in a safe belonging to Marchand.

Wiley says that when deputies searched the house, the safe was missing.

Due to the nature of the crime, the APSO can only speculate that they knew the person who killed them.

Wiley says it's the public that plays a big part in solving these types of crimes.

"We're not at a stand still by any means, but we welcome, and a lot of times we solve these violent crimes like this by the public with the help of the media engaging us," said Ascension Parish Sheriff Wiley.
