Ascension Parish man arrested on attempted murder charges

A man has been arrested on multiple charges after trying to shoot another man after an argument, accidently hitting a bystander in her foot.

Ascension Parish Sheriff deputies were called to Club Real in Prairieville around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night, April 14. Once deputies arrived they found a female victim with a single gunshot wound to her right foot.

Deputies later learned that an argument occurred between a black male and Joshua Stephens, 19, in the parking lot of the bar.

Stephens pulled a gun and began shooting at the black male which struck the female victim in her foot. She was transported by Acadian Ambulance to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital where her injuries are not life threatening.

The male subject suffered minor injuries that did not require medical attention and told deputies he had trouble with Stephens in the past.

Stephens turned himself in to police Tuesday night.

Stephens was arrested and charged with two counts attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault with a firearm, illegal use of weapons or dangerous instruments, firearm on premises of alcohol beverage outlet, and disturbing the peace.

He is currently incarcerated at the Ascension Parish Jail awaiting bond.
