Arrest made for robbery of elderly man in Prairieville

PRAIRIEVILLE, LA — A man was arrested in Ascension Parish for allegedly robbing an elderly man in Prairieville.
About mid-day on Wednesday, July 25, Sheriff's deputies responded to Lynch's Trailer Park off of Highway 929 after receiving reports of an elderly man being assaulted and robbed at gunpoint in his home. The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect entered the elderly man's home unannounced, armed with a handgun. The suspect ripped a phone cord from the wall and wrapped around the victims neck, but fortunately did not tighten it. However, the victim did sustain minor injuries after the suspect slapped him in the head, Bacala said.
The suspect then stole the victim's wallet containing $90 and the victim's truck. During the course of the home invasion investigation the Sheriff's Office received a second report that the victim's truck was spotted in L & D Trailer Park off of Highway 42. Deputies responded to L & D and learned from a witnesses that the suspect ran the stolen truck into the steps of a mobile home in the trailer park then fled the scene.
Investigators were able to identified Samuel Michael Stokes, 27, of Prairieville, as a possible suspect and as the investigation continued investigators were able to connect Stokes to both Lynch's and L & D Trailer Park crime scenes.
Arrest warrants were immediately obtained on Stokes for home invasion, armed robbery, armed robbery with use of firearm, auto theft, misdemeanor theft, criminal damage to property, and simple battery. Investigators discovered that Stokes was no longer residing in the home on Darville Road and was possibly staying in the Baton Rouge area.
At about midnight, Ascension Parish Sheriff's Deputies located Stokes in the stolen truck at Royal Motel on North Airline Highway in Prairieville. As they approached Stokes jumped from the truck and fled the scene on foot. Following a short foot pursuit he was tased and taken into custody and transported to the Ascension Parish and booked on the array of charges. He is currently incarcerated in the Ascension Parish Jail and no bond has been set at this time.
