PONCHATOULA, LA (NBC33) — An accused robber was shot in the buttocks by a homeowner after he allegedly fired a shot at the man in an attempt to avoid returning to jail.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident occurred on Saturday, Jan. 26 at a home on Hwy. 22 east in Ponchatoula. We’re told the homeowner called 911 after he allegedly detained a man at gunpoint who he believed robbed his home.
Officials say the suspect, Richard Falcon Stewart, Jr., 20, told the man that he was not “going back to jail” and pulled out a pistol from his jacket and fired at the homeowner. The homeowner returned fire and struck Stewart, but he managed to flee the scene before deputies arrived.
A K9 was deployed and located Steward in a nearby wooded area. They say Stewart was armed when they found him and had a single gunshot wound to the buttocks. He was transported to a local hospital and treated for his injury.
Stewart was on parole for two counts of Simple Burglary.
He was arrested and charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder, Aggravated Burglary, and Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
