PORT ALLEN, LA (NBC33) — A former Port Allen City Council member was sentenced today in Operation Blighted Officials.
Johnny Johnson Sr., 65, was sentenced to six months in a halfway house and two years probation. He'll also have to give up any money he made from the scam.
Johnson is convicted for backing a fake garbage can cleaning company in exchange for tickets to the Bayou Classic.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says Johnson was the first person in the federal corruption sting to admit responsibility.
Several other local city leaders were indicted and convicted as part of the operation.
