Altercation leads to a stabbing in Lafayette

On June 17, Lafayette Police responded to the 1500 block of North University Avenue regarding a stabbing.

When officers arrived on the scene they discovered the victim, a 21 year old female of Breaux Bridge, had been stabbed twice. The victim suffered stab wounds to the chest and arm. She was transported to an area hospital and remains in stable condition.

The incident is believed to have begun at a downtown bar where the two women were involved in a verbal altercation. The two women later relocated to the 1500 block of North University and engaged in an altercation.

The suspect produced a knife and stabbed the victim twice.

Charlene Leonard, 20, was arrested at the scene and charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder. The case remains under investigation.
