A 23 year old man was arrested in Assumption Parish after he allegedly engaged in an inappropriate sexual act with a 14 year old girl. The girl’s mother witnessed the incident that occurred behind the New Belmont Baptist Church in Labadieville.

The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident occurred on Sunday, Sept. 9. They were called to the church by the mother moments after she spotted her daughter being embraced in an inappropriate way by Travanti Williams of Thibodaux.

The teen told investigators that Williams led her to the secluded area of behind the church and placed her in a “bear hug.” She says he then began to sexually assault her, but the teen’s mother interfered before the advance went too far.

The teen also told investigators that this was not the first time Williams had made a sexual advance towards her.

Williams fled the scene before deputies arrived. However, a warrant was issued for his arrest and he was taken into custody on Thursday, Sept. 13. He was booked for one count of Molestation of a Juvenile.

Williams was also booked on an unrelated charge of Simple Criminal Damage to Property under $500, Un-authorized Entry of an Inhabited Dwelling, Simple Battery and Failure to Appear for Simple Battery.
