Afternoon shooting in west Shreveport leaves 1 dead
Shreveport, LA (NBC33) — Gunshots rang out in the 3800 block of Jackson St. in the Queensborough neighborhood Wednesday afternoon and police believe it may have been a drug deal that went wrong.
39-year-old Herbert Webb, of Shreveport, arrived at the hospital suffering a gunshot wound below the abdomen before dying of his injuries.
Officers were at the scene of the crime all afternoon piecing together what exactly happened.
"We suspect this may be a drug deal gone bad. The preliminary information that we're receiving is that there were some people that walked up to a white SUV, a shot was fired, and the SUV fled. Again, this is very early so we don't want to rule anything in or out completely, but again this is the information that we're being presented with right now," said Shreveport Police Cpl. Marcus Hines.
Statiscally speaking this is generally a high crime area, but one resident doesn't quite agree.
"It's a nice neighborhood to live in, but it's just the people. I don't know what went on, don't care what went on, but life is too short for what goes on around here, that's all I can say," said Queensborough resident Don Ray.
Ray said he came rushing to the scene after receiving a phone call that his sister's house had been shot up.
This shooting raises his concerns for the safety of neighborhood kids, going on to say that this crime makes him want to move his sister out of Shreveport and to some place safer.
"I don't think it's more crime in the Queensborough area. It's all over the city, all over the world," said Ray.
Police said Wednesday's shooting marks the 14th homicide for the city of Shreveport this year.
