A Thibodaux man was arrested on theft charges after he attempted to evade police while riding a bicycle.

On August 4, a Thibodaux police officer doing a business check in the 100 Block of East Bayou Road was alerted by employees that Cyril Harley, 53, had just stolen over a dozen cans of alcohol and a soft drink.

When Harley was ordered back to the store, he responded with “Hold On!” as he pedaled away on his bicycle.

The officer caught Harley on Hwy 308 after Harley continued to try and out run the police cruiser with his bicycle. The merchandise was located after Harley discarded it near-by.

The merchandise was returned, and Cyril Harley was transported to the Thibodaux Police Department for booking.

Harley was cahrged with Theft of Goods and Resisting An Officer.
