A traffic stop ended in a foot pursuit and the arrest of a man who was allegedly selling drugs.

The Thibodaux Police Department reports that the incident occurred on Monday, Feb. 4 at roughly 10:40 p.m. We’re told an officer spotted a GMC Envoy with a burnt tail light. The vehicle did not use a turn signal, so the officer activated his lights and attempted a traffic stop.

The suspect, Dereke Southall, 32, allegedly pulled over his vehicle but quickly got out of the car and fled on foot. Officers were able to locate and apprehend him quickly.

Officials say a large sum of cash, cocaine, marijuana and lortabs were found inside his vehicle.

Southall was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana, Cocaine and Lortabs, Resisting an Officer, Burnt Tail Light, and No Turn Signal. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center.
