Though crime is down across the city, one zip code is experiencing an uptick in violent crime.

Jerome Lockhart lives in the 70815, he's lived there for years, but over the last few years things have changed.

"Sometimes I am afraid to even come outside, work outdoors here in the garden," said Lockhart.

Crime continues to climb in the area, with three of this month's four murders happening in the 70815. Lockhart said it's a combination of many things, but he'd like to see more things for kids in the area to do.

"They don't have nowhere to go and nothing to do, and they need that. That would encourage them to do something," added Lockhart.

Officers with the Baton Rouge police department said they can't pin down exactly why the violent crime is rising.

“It’s hard to tell if it's related, if it's moving, or if it's something new," explained Corporal Don Cappola.

But police have said they are well aware of the situation and they're watching it closely.

"Oh without a doubt, without a doubt. We do want to curb crime throughout the city, but we are keeping an eye on that," added Cappola

The 70805 area is still the most violent, with 13 murders this year, but this year there's already been 8 murders in the 70815. As for Lockhart, he said he's not going to get pushed out by crime.

"I don't plan to move, I don't want to move. But if I have to I will," said Lockhart.

Police have also asked the community to be their eyes and ears and call them if they see something.

Simple fix build a bunker and house the Mayor and City Police dept. in the 70815 area to put them all closer to the problems and where they can get there much faster when a crime happens, it will save the city lots of money and stop some of it on the downtown area thats a bottle neck to get to for free shows and free entertainment at the cities expense. Rent out the plush Mayors office to a deserving program that will help the city for a change.

I have a suggestion that may cure the problems in the 70815 area, lets move the police dept. and the mayors office to that zip code and give them something else to shoot at for a change. Kip is a hero maybe he can stop crime if he is a little closer to the problem instead of in a plush office by the river out of everyones aim.... Get involved with the real problems do not just talk about it.
