4 arrests made in string of Hammond car burglaries, stolen guns recovered

Four men are now being charged for a string of vehicle burglaries in the Hammond area.


33-year-old Kevin Gales was arrested during a traffic stop on Tuesday, July 15, and was in possession of four stolen guns, according to Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff, Daniel Edwards.


Edwards said two guns recovered from Gales’ car were stolen from a marked law enforcement vehicle on July 9.


Investigators also found numerous stolen items including, a bullet proof vest and ammo while executing search warrants on the homes of Gales and his accomplices.

Some of the stolen items were linked to car burglaries as far back as May 2014.


The following subjects were arrested and charged with four counts of felony possession of a firearm and two counts of felony possession of stolen property:

33-year-old o Kevin Gales; he is also being charged with four counts of  being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

18-year-old o Cody Austin

18-year-old o Khalil Franklin

50-year-old Garvey Newman; he is also being charged with four counts of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Edwards said he believes the suspects will be receiving additional charges.
