15-year-old arrested for bringing gun to Baton Rouge school

A 15-year-old from Baton Rouge was arrested today for allegedly bringing a gun to school.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies were contacted by Beechwood Academy on Thursday, Sept. 12 at roughly 11:00 a.m. A school administrator told deputies that someone reported that a student had a gun in his back pack.

Deputies located the student and searched his back pack. They found an unloaded .38 caliber handgun.

The student did not make any threats and did not provide a reason for why he brought the gun on campus.

The teen was arrested and charged with Illegal Carrying of a Weapon on School Property. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Juvenile Detention Center. 

The School Drug Task Force is a multi-agency unit made up of East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputies and Baton Rouge Police Officers.
