Hammond police are still investigating a double shooting at a house on Mallard Drive.

Police say Giles McGhee, 46, went to his ex-girlfriend Tameka Muse's house and shot her and her boyfriend, Karum Smith. Smith died at the hospital, but Muse's body was found by her 14-year-old daughter.

“All I heard was ‘Bow’. I didn't know what it was. I thought it was hail,” stated neighbor Sharon Johnson. “It shocked me.”

She says the murder is tragic. But she can't imagine what it's like for muse's daughter.

“You lose your mother at 14 years old,” stated neighbor Sharon Johnson. “How tragic is that? It's terrible. It’s just sad, you know, for stuff like this to happen.”

Police say McGhee and Muse broke up several months ago, which may have led to the shooting.

“These domestic crimes are tragic, because nobody wins,” stated Johnson. “Both sides of families are going to suffer.”

Meanwhile, neighbors like Johnson say they're thinking twice about how safe they are in their normally quiet neighborhood.

Johnson stated, “It’s terrifying. Very terrifying.”

Police say Giles McGhee was caught earlier today in the Glen Oaks area of Baton Rouge. He's being charged with two counts of first degree murder.

Police say other family members of the 14-year-old girl are taking care of her.
